Meet Charlie, a stray dog my wife and I rescued.
According to the vet he had been on the street for at least 48-72 hours and was critically underweight. His hair was all matted and caked with dirt. He had cuts on his face, belly, and genitals. He is about 1 year old.
Day 1
This is him about 10 weeks later! (with a nice haircut)
He is doing much better now, but he is really having a hard time with separation anxiety. If he’s alone for more than 10 minutes he immediately starts crying, barking, scratching at the walls, digging at the carpet, etc. He really dislikes being in a kennel, so we have been leaving him in our bedroom.
We’ve tried just about everything and are very worried about getting evicted from our apartment.
So far we’ve tried:
Leaving, returning, rewarding
Flower essences (rescue remedy)
Dog Pheromones
citronella spray collar (this was sad, and hilarious)
Professional behaviorist: she told us, in a nutshell, to shout the s*** out of him when he’s being bad
Everything works for a little bit, but he always seems to forget whatever progress we made. If anyone has any suggestions please help - we are desperate!!
